Have you placed limitations on yourself? I was reminded of something today limits are mean to be broken. When you place limits on yourself you keep growth at bay. You will never know what you are capable of unless you push past those false boundaries you have placed on yourself.
Two weeks ago I biked 30 miles on a local bike trail. I told myself that I did not know if I could do more even though I want to do the entire 61 miles of the trail. Today I set out to do 40 miles. I was nervous about this.
When I got to 30 miles I was ready to give up. I told myself that this was my limit. The problem I faced was that I was still 10 miles to my truck. I could not give up. If I had given up what would I have done? I pushed as hard as I could and I got 40.5 miles. To some this might not seem like a lot but to me I saw it as a great accomplishment. I pushed past my barrier.
Think about what you have wanted to do for a long time and have not accomplished it. It might be going back to school. It might be a new career. It might even be making a commitment and getting married. It might even be giving up drugs or alcohol. Now think about what is holding you back. Odds are you have placed a limit on yourself by saying you cannot do it.
If you have said you cannot do it you are stopping yourself. You are the one that has said you cannot do it. Now imagine yourself doing what you answered in the previous paragraph. I am sure that if you really commit you can push yourself past the limit and barrier you have created and excel at it.
I am sitting here watching Fox News this morning and they were talking about the debate. One thing that keeps coming up is how one party will be ready to counter the others arguments. There will obviously be disagreements on many things tonight. This is fine because the good thing about our country’s system we can disagree and still get things done.
I want to ask you and I want you to be honest have you lost a friend because you do not agree with their choice of politics? I have heard people say that they have deleted friends on Facebook or other social media. Really? Why are you willing to lose a friend over disagreements?
When you choose not to listen to the other side you are being close minded. Everyday we face disagreements in life. We face disagreements at work, do we quit our job because we have a disagreement? No, you do not just leave a job because you don’t agree, you work through the disagreement.
Do not let disagreements in politics ruin friendships. You are never going to agree with the other person 100%. This is ok because we are all unique. We all have our own thoughts.
I want you to take your calander out and go to November 9, 2016. It doesn’t matter if it is on your phone or a paper calander. I want you to write this on that date “God is still in control this morning.” Many people are going to be upset that morning. It does not matter which person wins the other side will be upset.
The great thing about whoever wins Jehovah will still reign supreme. I will try to use scripture to back this up.
1. “Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.” Romans 13:1
No matter who wins the election God has placed them there for a reason. We might not realize what is going on, but who are we to question God. All authority is given by God because He is the ultimate authority. We must accept the authority that is placed upon the person who receives the most votes.
2. “The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the LORD; He turns it wherever He wishes.” Proverbs 21:1
Whoever wins we must pray for that person. We must pray that they will listen to the guidance and leading of God and other godly people. God has the ability to change a king’s heart, soul, and mind.
3. “And the LORD will be king over all the earth; in that day the LORD will be the only one, and His name the only one.” Zechariah 14:9
From the beginning God has been the only one and will be until the end of time. One day God will rule over His entire creation. We are given earthly rulers until this point. There are going to be many that we do not like. There are also going to be some that we do like. Not everyone will like the same leaders. This is ok.
As Americans we have been through many election cycles and each one gets nasty at the end. We know this is coming and many people expect it. Some people are even caught off guard and forget that elections get nasty. Let’s put all that aside and start focusing on important things.
“Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”Philippians 3:13-14 NASB
I am fed up with this election like I assume most people are. I am tired of the name calling. I am tired of the candidates digging up skeletons on the other candidate. This has to be the most bizarre elections I have ever seen.
I have seen many Christian leaders abandon Trump because they do not like comments he made 10 years ago. Thank God He has not forsaken us because I am sure that we all have said something wrong in our past. I also read a comment today from someone calling Beth Moore a false teacher because she spoke out against Trump.
I have heard evangelical leaders say they will vote for Trump and never Hillary. They do not like her policies. They do not like that “she lies”. They do not like what her husband has done in the past. The list goes on and on.
I am no longer going to worry about the past. I am looking forward to the future. At this point I am not going to worry myself with who might win or lose. I am not worried about what will happen. The reason is because God is still in control.
I have my sights set on the upward call of God. I am going to live my life the way God expects. The President of the United States is not going to have a direct impact on our communities. We as citizens of our communities have a greater impact then any national politician. Jesus said to love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself. It is time we start focusing on loving each other and sharing Christ through our words and actions.
Think about this…Jesus did not speak out against Pilate or call him names even though this man lead him to His death. He respected the authority of that position.
