No republican action and democratic sit in

Republicans are not acting. As a matter of fact they called for recess and until July 5th. Democrats are still staging a sit in. Does anyone else see the problem with this? The major problem I see is that there is no unity in our government. We are still the United States of America are we not?

It seems every bill that comes up for a vote there is major debate. One party wants this and the other wants something else. Neither party wants to compromise. We saw a new low on Wednesday with the congressmen sitting on the house floor and others just leaving.

At what point did politics come to doing what’s right for you and not what’s right for the people. At what point did we decide to go away from the constitution. We need to come together in unity as a nation.

The way we come together is going to be through Jesus Christ. The problem is that churches are not unified. There is disagreements among large denominations. There are even disagreements in theology among churches that are right next door. There might even be disagreements in the local church.

If we want to become a unified nation under God again we must turn back to God. Our churches have to be unified first. Then the churches must take the gospel and the love of Jesus to our neighbors.

We have to stop trying to legislate morality. We must take Jesus to our neighbors if we want to see revival. This is how we are going to solve many issues in America.

Make America Great Again

I’m using a Donald trump line but I’m not supporting him. We keep saying we we want to have a great country. Well let me let you in on a secret, we have a great country. For now we still have many freedoms that we all love. If we want to keep America great we need to stop all the political fighting among parties. We need to even stop the fighting in the parties. The republicans cannot even decide if they want to back the person American republicans voted for.

As I am writing this our congressmen are staging a sit in. Yes a sit in on the house floor. These are grown adults that we have elected to represent us. This is something that we would see from college students. Many people are saying this is leadership. I say no it’s not.

What we need in America is not the greatest politician that has “all the answers.” What we need is a revival. We need a spiritual awakening in America. We need Christians that are on fire for the Lord. We need Christians that are loving the Lord and their neighbors. We need Christians that are taking the gospel to their neighbors. We need pastors who are boldly proclaiming the gospel from the pulpit each week.

Many problems we face in this country cannot be fixed by laws. You cannot legislate morality. We have problems with pride, hatred, sexual immorality, greed and the list could go on forever. It’s not a law problem. There are thousands upon thousands of laws. It is an issue of the heart.

These problems can be solved by humbly turning to God and asking for guidance. We have to stop looking out for ourselves. We have to seek the will of God.

Christian Response to a Tragedy

“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.”Romans 12:10-15 NASB

More and more we are seeing mass shooting events throughout the world. On June 12, 2016 America saw its worst mass shooting with at least 49 people killed as the result of a man who claimed to be of the Islamic faith. Many people are understandably upset. Many people took to social media to voice their frustrations.

I saw people who claimed to be Christian posting things that were not Christlike. I will not even repeat the things I saw on Twitter since they were just wrong and not helpful to the conversation. There are certain ways we as Christians should respond during tragic events. Doing these things will show the love of Christ.

Ways to respond in a tragedy

Love each other

As Christians we are told that the greatest commandment is to love the Lord. The second is to love your neighbor. We are to love everyone. When people are hurting you need to show some compassion. This is not a time for political agendas. This is also not a time to bash people for their beliefs.

Serve the Lord

Serve the Lord through your words and actions. Do not just say you follow Christ. Use this time to share the love of Christ with those that are hurting.

Persevere in tribulation

As we face tribulation we must keep our faith and hope in Jesus. Leaning on Jesus in tough times is how He wants us to respond. We must be dependent on Him.

Prayer

This should be the first thing we do. It is number four on the list just because of the way it falls in the scripture. We should turn to God and pray for all that are involved. We should not turn to social media first. Many of us, I am including myself, will turn to social media to see what everyone is saying. This is when a lot of people start voicing their opinions and start ranting. This will not solve anything. It just adds fuel to an already hot fire.

Take this time instead to pray for the victims and their families. Pray for the first responders. These people are going to face a lot of stress during this time. Pray for guidance, strength, courage, and for safety. Also pray for those that have caused the situation. Pray that they will repent and turn to God before its too late.

Practice hospitality

When a tragedy occurs we should practice hospitality. This could take on several forms. You could donate blood as blood supplies will be low. You could donate money to help victims with financial needs that arise from the situation.

During natural disasters there are things you can do as well. You can get involved with disaster relief agencies such as Samaritan’s Purse. You can donate money, food, or time.

Bless those that persecute you

When you are persecuted as a Christian you should pray for the one that is persecuting you. This comes from Jesus’ most famous sermon, the Sermon on the Mount. This is hard for many people. It is so counter culture to they way we think. Many people automatically seek revenge and think evil thoughts. You cannot fight evil with evil. You can fight evil (and win) with love.

Weep

Weep with those that weep. This is a time of mourning. Be there for those that are hurting. Offer a shoulder to cry on. Listen to them as they express their feelings. Let your heart break for what is breaking their hearts. If you do not know the victims personally this does not mean you cannot weep for them. It is okay to be sad for those that are hurting.

Churches that are struggling

This morning I went to the church I grew up going to. The church had a very minimal amount in Sunday school last week. This week is homecoming and I do not believe there is even 75 people here. I remember when I was a teenager there would be standing room only in the sanctuary.

Why is it that some churches are struggling and some are thriving? I think it has to do with the mentality of the church. Most churches that are thriving are adapting to their communities. They are not changing the message but the approach to delivering the message.

The churches that are thriving are also make multiplying disciples. They are very concerned with taking the message of salvation to the ends of the earth. They are also concerned with the lost souls in their communities.

When churches are thriving you see more people baptized. You see people’s lives changed. You see people on fire for God. You see people who are worshipping in church services.

Churches that are struggling are just the opposite. It is very easily seen. This is not God’s plan for his church.

Churches have to make a decision on how they will be. Do you want to be involved in a thriving or struggling church?

Changing the World

Changing the world is not going to come from electing a new president. I know some think that Hillary, Bernie, and even Trump can change the world. Yes who ever is elected will have an impact. The change I am referring to though is a positive life changing impact that can change the world for the better.

“And He said to him, ” ‘Y OU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR G OD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘Y OU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22:37-39‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Change is not going to come through politicians. It will come through Christians following God. First Christians need to love God. If we are loving God we have no room for hate of others. We will look to do His will and not ours.

The next way we change the world is to love our neighbors. One thing I keep seeing is that people are hating others that have a different point of view. We have free choice and should respect that people have different points of view.

When we love others we should be concerned with telling others about the saving grace of God. We need to let people know what God has done for us. We need to concentrate less on what the church is against and more on what God is for.

Spend time getting to know your neighbor. Spend time loving your neighbors even those that have different views. Love God and be more Christ like.

This changed the world in the first century. It will change the world again. Stop looking for man to change the world.
