Biblical Work #mondaymotivation #careerwithapurpose

I have decided to add part of the first chapter of my book on my blog. I hope you enjoy.
Work is Biblical.

To some work is such a dreaded word. It is a word that causes some people to go oh great I have to get up and do it again today. It is also a word that some people say I am so glad to be able to get up and do it again today. Why is there such a contrast in the way people view work? I feel that it is because they do not look at what work actually is. Work is something that we were made to do. God has designed us for work, for this reason we should become the worker God intended.

Once we realize this fact we can do what God has planned for us. God has a purpose for our lives while we are here on earth. We can discover that purpose through our work. We do not have to do ministry work to be successful and please God. No matter what work we do we can please God through the work as long as we have the right attitude and we are doing something that does not violate the word of God. Whether you drive a garbage truck, you are a nurse in a trauma hospital, or you are a pastor your work is a reflection of who you are. You are a child of God and your work should reflect that.

God Designed Us for Work

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Genesis 1:28

God had just created His beautiful masterpiece that we call earth. God created everything that was on the earth. He created all of the mountains, streams, lakes, fields, and all that filled the earth. God had also made all of the living creatures that were on the earth such as cattle, deer, and all other animals that were alive. This was work for God to create the features of the earth as well as the animals that were now living on the planet.

God was working but He wanted someone to come alongside Him in the garden and help Him take care of it. This is when God made man and woman in His image. He desired for someone that would have the same desires that He had. God wanted someone that was there in the garden to take care of what He had created. This was God’s masterpiece and it was going to require hard work. It was going to require the inhabitants to be committed to God’s vision of a beautiful garden. Without Adam being willing to work there was no hope for the garden to thrive.

We see that God waited until He had man on the earth and in the garden before He sent the rain to help the garden to grow. There was no need to have a garden to work in and cultivate if there was no one on earth to do this work. Working in a garden can be rewarding and satisfying. It is always great to be able to enjoy the harvest when your produce has become ripe. This takes a lot of work and patience but it is very satisfying. It is a great joy to see what you have created and to be able to eat the produce or even share it with others.

Everything God Gives Us Requires Work

I have learned a valuable lesson. This was a lesson that I learned the hard way. When I was younger I wanted the biggest and best trucks. I was working really hard and I knew what I wanted. I can remember I was cutting grass for one of my clients at the time and a gentleman I used to do tree work with pulled up. He was in a nice new Chevrolet 2500. I loved his new truck. I even told him how much I loved his new truck. He told me that it was not his truck. He said it belongs to God and that God was just allowing him to use it. I thought it was kind of silly and just blew him off. This was a lesson I wished I had listened to at an earlier age. Everything we have belongs to God and we have to work for it and to maintain it.

I have learned over the past few years everything I have is a gift from God. God has provided me with more than I need and I am extremely grateful for it. The things I have were not just given to me because God wanted me to have them. They were given to me because I have worked hard for the things that I have. I also have to work to maintain the things that I have. There is maintenance to do around the house. I also have to maintain our vehicles, if not they will not work for long. This not only requires us to do work to maintain the things but we also must work for the money to buy and maintain the products. It can easily cost over $2,500 for fuel, oil changes, washes, and general maintenance for one car per year. When God gives you something it is necessary to work to for it.

Work Is Essential

But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. 1 Timothy 5:8

As Christians we are told that we are to work and provide for our households. God designed us to work and He does not just want us sitting around the house and being a slacker. He desires for us to be out in the workforce being productive. Paul makes it very clear that we are to provide for our own. We are to provide for our household first. We are to make sure that our children have their basic needs meet because they cannot go out and provide for themselves. Paul uses “he” in this particular verse but that does not mean that just the man has to be providing for the household. This has been the case for many decades but times are changing. It might require both the mother and father to work to take care of the household. The mother might even make enough so that the dad can stay home with the children. This is a decision that should be made based on the needs of the family and whether or not the family can survive on one income or not.

Another thing that is important in this verse is that Paul is saying that we should take care of our own. I see this as including extended family. That could be parents, grandparents, in-laws, or even adult children. There may come a time when a family member is no longer able to work due to a health reason and may need help whether it is financial or they have to move in with you. God will provide the means for you to help your family when they are in need. It might and probably will require extra work on your part, but this is what God wants us to do. He wants us to work so that we can support our household first then support our family when they are in need.

When we work harder so that we can support our family and our extended family it is good for everyone. We are blessed to know that our family is being supported. It also relieves stress off the family member who might be worried about getting their next meal. It also allows churches and other charities to concentrate on the people who cannot work and truly have no one that will support them.

What if you do not have a family? You are still to work to provide for yourself. You are your own and should provide for yourself. God warns us several times about being a slacker and a sluggard. Just because you are alone does not give you the right not to work. You need to work so that you are not dependent on someone else for a place to live or even something to eat. If God has blessed you with the ability to work then you should take enough pride in yourself to become the best you can.
