2016 Presidential Election

I will not do a lot of political blog posts, but this is a topic that has been on my mind a lot.

I have seen estimates that this presidential campaign can cost any where from 3-5 billion dollars. That is an outrageous amount of money in the scheme of things. What point did we start caring about how much money you can raise and less about the candidates. There are things I would rather see in a candidate then how much money they are raising. I want to see details on their plans. I am looking for a candidate that has integrity. I also want to see a positive campaign.

Substance – We as Americans deserve a plan on how you plan to do things. Stop saying that you are going to fix taxes, cut debt, fix immigration or whatever the topic of the day is if you cannot provide details. I think we are at a point in the campaign where the candidates should be detailing their plans. The primaries are not that far. The candidate I vote for will be the one that has laid out the best plan.

Integrity – Stop pretending you are something that you are not. Be yourself and let the true you shine. Also if you are elected do what you say you are going to do. Do not make deals with political action committees that you are going to have to keep. Be honest with those that are voting for you. Do not be bought.

Stop the bickering – Politicians can I let you in on a secret? A majority of Americans do not want the name calling. We do not want the negative campaign ads. We want it to be about what you are going to do and not you feel about your opponent.

When an Emergency Occurs

As I am sitting in the emergency room at 4 am this morning I was thinking about all the emergencies I have had with my family. We have had many of them. Some we have been ready for and some we have not. I think that you have to be ready physically, mentally, and spiritually for any emergency.
Physically – I believe this is important because disaster can strike at any time. Just a few days ago a major hurricane hit Mexico and then caused heavy rain and flooding in parts of Texas. This is not uncommon any more. It seems like tornadoes, hurricanes, wild fires or other natural disasters can strike anywhere. You have to be ready for evacuations. You need to be ready to help family, friends, and neighbors.

Mentally – Your mind needs to be prepared to handle am emergency. When something happens you must keep a clear mind. You have to stay calm. If you are not calm you are likely to lose focus. When that happens you are going to make decisions that might not be the best. You should have a plan in place on how your family will deal with certain emergencies that might occur. By having a plan you are prepared and can stay calm.

Spiritually – This is very important. Are you right with God? Have you accepted God as your savior? There is only one way to heaven and that is through Jesus. If you wait until an emergency it might be too late. Disaster can strike any time and anywhere.

Is Your Life a Mess?

“I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake.”‭‭1 John‬ ‭2:12‬ ‭NASB‬‬

http://bible.com/100/1jn.2.12.nasb

One thing I recently realized after listening to a message by Andy Stanley is that the bible is full of bad people. These people made some very bad choices. Think about this, these people are just like you and me. We have all messed up. Some have messed up worse than others but the fact is no one is perfect. God used these people in a mighty way despite their past.

You might be thinking God can never use me because of what I have done. You might be looking around and seeing people who appear to have it all together and think God should probably use them over me.  I will let you in on a secret. Some people are better at hiding their pain and struggles.

You might be the one getting in the way of God using you.  God is willing to forgive you for your past. Once you ask for forgiveness He is ready to forgive. Then you have to forgive yourself. You are a new creation in the eyes of Christ. Your past does not matter. What matters is moving forward with God.

We were forgiven for His name sake. God wants to use you in a mighty way. He wants to use you to show others the love of God. He wants to use you to spread the gospel so others can hear how they can have eternal life.

Your past is your past. Look through the bible you see many people with really bad pasts. Saul tried to stop the church, but was instrumental in spreading the church. David had an affair and then had someone killed, but God used him after repentance. Your life might be a mess but God can clean it up and still use you.

Responsibility

Why is it so hard for some people to take responsibility for their actions? One reason I believe is that our society has made people believe that admitting to their faults is a sign of weakness. We are programmed to think that if we admit we cannot do something or we did something wrong we are weak. One of my mentors, when I was a realtor, would say fake it until you make it. I have heard others say the same thing. The problem is when we fake it we appear to be strong when we are not. We refuse to admit when we do not know how to do something.
This leads to doing something wrong. Now you have a choice to make. Do you admit you were wrong and take responsibility or do you blame someone else. I have seen several people put the blame on someone else. I unfortunately have done the same thing. I have blamed others because I did not want others to see my short comings. This just causes problems. Most people are going to see right through this. They are going to know you failed and refused to accept responsibility.

A true leader is going to accept when they are wrong. They are going to take responsibility when they have made a mistake. They are going to take the consequences for their actions or lack of. You cannot put your mistakes off on someone else.

As a father I also have a responsibility to my kids to teach them to take responsibility when they mess up. If I do not take responsibility it shows them that they can do the same thing. We must teach our kids to admit when they are wrong. If they do not learn now our next generation will have a hard time taking responsibility.

#MakeAmericaGreatAgain

If you are following the presidential race I am sure you have heard the slogan “make America great again.” I am also sure you do not need me to tell you who this slogan belongs too. I am all for making America great again. I want to be clear I am not endorsing this candidate or any other candidates.
What is it going to take for America to be great again? Many people think it will require a smooth politician. Many people think it will require a business man. Others think it will require an outsider, someone who is not a career politician. All of these maybe great for the country; however, I feel we need more.
I feel we as a country need a man of God. I am not saying we need a man who claims to be a Christian when it is popular for him to do so. I am saying we need a man such as Noah, Moses, or Paul. We need a man that is walking with God on a daily basis. We need a man who is not ashamed of the gospel. We need a man who is faithful to God.
We need a man who will stand up to terrorist around the world. We need to stop catering to those that desire to harm us for our beliefs. We also need a man who is willing to stand up for the rights of Christians in America.
We are going to make America great again when we bring God back into this country. Coaches cannot pray with their players. You have to be careful how you pray at meetings lead by local governments. You cannot pray in school. If you pray in the name of Jesus you face lawsuits from an organization that does not want God in public. If God is in our lives He should be in every aspect.
There has been a resurgence of people using our national motto: in God we trust. America it is time to make our country great again. We will do this by inviting God back to our country.

Gun Control

Again we have a news report of a shooting at a college. Early this morning there was a fight at Northern Arizona University. This lead to an 18 year old shooting 4 while killing 1 other student. I know this will be politicized as law makers call for more gun control. I am going to stay out of that argument on both sides. I truly do not know what the answer is. What I do hope to accomplish with this blog is to shed light on what I see as a problem.

I see the biggest problem as an issue with the heart and mind. Let’s start with the most recent shooting. The student shot the other students because he let his emotions get away from him. He did this act of violence because of anger.

Going back a week or so to the Oregon shooting this was done because of a heart and mind problem. Reports are the shooter shot the victims because of them being Christian. Again his emotions got the best of him. He also made a conscious decision that morning to go to the college armed and with a very specific goal.

We could go on for a long time. Each mass shooting, each act of violence, each person killed was due to a heart and mind problem. We need to pray for those that need mental help. We need to be on our knees praying without ceasing that God will heal our land. We need to pray that these senseless acts stop.

I know this post might cause controversy and I am sorry if it does. I would like to have people comment and have a discussion.

Are You Being Productive?

“Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.”‭‭Titus‬ ‭3:14‬ ‭NIV‬‬ http://bible.com/111/tit.3.14.niv

Is your life unproductive? If so what is keeping it that way? We as a society are becoming to caught up in time wasters. These time wasters include social media, games on our phones, reality television and things that cause us to focus on that instead of being productive.

Think about how much time you spend on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other. The amount of time might surprise you. What if instead of social media you used that time to do something productive? Tiu cod read a book. You could build something. You could start a new hobby. Think about the last time you saw a post that was so amazing that you are glad you saw it.

We must learn to do something good. If you took the time you spend on social media you might be able to learn a new skill. That new skill might allow you to get promoted or even a job. What is something you have always wanted to do but do not have the time? I have always wanted to write a book. I have got a good start on my first book.

Another urgent need that you need to tend to is your family. Do you come home in the evening and spend time on social media? I know I would as I am watching television. Neither was productive for me. Spending time with the family, who I neglected a little while in school, is a lot more important.

As a society I think we could have a little less social media. I think we could devote ourselves to more productive things.

A Good Wife is a Gift From God. #marriage

“He who finds a wife finds a good thing And obtains favor from the LORD.”‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:22‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Guys have you ever wanted something really bad? Once you obtain it you take care of it. You do this because it is something you really wanted. If this item is so important that means it is good. If it was not good why did you want it to begin with?

When you are dating you hope to find a good woman. You might even pray that God sends a good woman. I hope that you pray this when you are searching for a wife. You do not want a wife that is not good. When you find a good wife you have obtained a great thing from the Lord.

Here are some characteristics of a good woman:

Loves God – This is number one because it is so important. The love for God must take priority in our lives. If your wife does not love God she cannot love you. God is the source and example for love. Guys this goes both ways. We must love God first then our wives.

A heart of gold – One quality of my wife that I admire the most is her pure heart. She will do anything for anyone. She has has such a gracious heart.

Loves her family – A good woman will love her family. This means her spouse, children, and the extended family. It is a beautiful thing to see the love of a woman for her children. She will love her children no matter what they do.

Beautiful – As I talk about beauty I want to talk more about what’s on the inside. Physical beauty fades but what is on the inside does not. A good woman’s character will make her beautiful inside and out.

Humble – A good woman will remain humble because she knows that she is where she is because of God. A good woman is not proud and boastful.

Respects you – A good woman will respect you not because you demand respect but because she loves you. She will respect you because you are the spiritual head of the household.

Hard worker – A good woman will be a hard worker. She will work hard at home to keep the household running smoothly. She will also work to help provide for the family if necessary.

When you find a good woman treat her right. Take care of her and your marriage. You should equally be a good husband. You need to treat her better than you could ever expect to be treated.

I have found a good woman. I am very thankful to God for such a great gift. She is a blessing to me and my family. I am the first to admit I am not the best husband. I want to challenge every man to treat their wife as a gift from God. Guys we need to man up and be godly husbands if we expect our wives to be godly.

Dealing With #Evil in the World

“Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “V ENGEANCE IS M INE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord. “B UT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS ON HIS HEAD.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”Romans 12:9-21 NASB

There is a lot of evil in the world. We are never going to fight evil because the world tried to say it does not exist. They say there are people who do bad things. Evil is a force against God and until we recognize this fact we cannot combat it.

Once we recognize it we must abhor it. This means we are to regard it with hatred. Why would we be told this? It is because evil is against God’s will. We must cling to what is from God because that is what is good.

There are several ways listed to cling to what is good:

1. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. When we love someone with brotherly love we are devoted to them. We love them like our own brother. We would do anything for them. Imagine if everyone loved their neighbor this way. We would not have evil because no one would have evil thoughts against their neighbor.

2. Honor one another. Hold each other up in high respect. Think of everyone as having something of value to add to society.

3. Be fervent in spirit. Be passionate in your spirit. Be passionate about loving others. Be passionate about loving God.

4. Serve the lord. Serve God in all you do. Do everything thing for His glory.

5. Rejoice in hope. Rejoice that there is a force that can and has overcome evil. No matter what happens God is in control. This fact a lone should give you more hope than anything else.

6. Persevere in tribulations. When we face evil tribulations we can persevere because He that lives inside of us. This is where our strength comes from.

7. Devoted to prayer. Be consistent in prayer. One thing you should pray for is those that persecute you. Pray that they will have a change of heart and come to know Jesus. Pray that you will be strong in the face of evil and not lose hope.

8. Bless those who persecute you. This had to be hard. It is not natural to be nice to someone who wants to harm you. Maybe it is natural and we have been looking at it wrong. If we love everyone like our brother we will want to bless them.

9. Rejoice with those that rejoice. When our brother is rejoicing be happy with them. Do not be jealous of their happiness.

10. Weep with those that weep. When our brother is sad we must offer our condolences. We must be sad for them and with them.

11. Never repay evil with evil. Remember what I said bless those that persecute you. Do not ever do harm to them because of what they have done. This is an evil act itself as it goes against the will of God.

12. Be at peace with all men. When we are at peace with all men there is less evil.

These are the things we must do to combat evil. These things have the power to change people’s hearts. Evil is rooted in a person’s heart. It is who they are. Show God’s love to them and leave it up to the Holy Spirit. If they do not change from evil God will deal with them.

It is time for the church to stand up and combat evil. We do this by spreading the word of God and sharing His love.
